3rd Korea Pro Tour Championships 2007 in Seoul/Korea
The last event of the Korea Pro Tour 2007 was held again in the metropolis Seoul the capital of South-Korea. The top of the Lotte Department Store, a huge and modern shopping centre, was a good location for this event. On the final day not only a lot of spectators, but also the big sports channel MBC ESPN was there to broadcast the final matches.
Due to the fact that Jasmin Ouschan never fears to play in men events, her trainer Michael Neumann and she decided to take the chance and compete in the men tournament as well.
The tournament started with a match in the men division. She had to play Sungwan Kim from Korea. Without any problems Ouschan adjusted perfectly to the conditions and took the lead with a good performance. Even though her opponent tried to resist for a while she kept playing well and defeated him with 9:3. The first women match was against Eunji Park the current Nr.1 in Korea. Ouschan started out with 4 break and run-outs and put a lot of pressure on her. The young Korean had no answer towards her game and lost with 7:1. After that flawless performance Ouschan faced Goh Takami from Japan. Ouschan knew her opponent from the Straight Pool World Championships where she kicked him out of the event. But every match is different and Jasmin Ouschan knew that. Although both players made a few mistakes Ouschan came out on top and won with a 9:7 score. In the next men match Ouschan played Mazol the Nr.15 of the Philippines. Due to the enormous level on the Philippines Ouschan knew that this won't be an easy job. Right from the beginning Ouschan played great pool and put him under pressure. But experienced as he was he countered back and the match began to get more and more exciting. At the score of 8:8 Ouschan played a great safety and gave Mazol only a 2 rail kick as an option. He kicked the ball over two rails and made the 8 over a combination into the side pocket. He run out and sent Ouschan to the losers round. After this little annoying end she had to play another women match against Myuki Sakai from Japan. Ouschan who was still thinking about the lucky 2 rail combination made a lot of mistakes which led to a fast 6:3 lead of Sakai. Ouschan fought back and gave her no chance to finish the match. Jasmin Ouschan managed to win with 7:6. In the losers round of the men division she had to play the young Korean Kang Lee. Also in this match the luck was not on her side as Kang Lee had three 9 ball breaks and so Ouschan was trailing again. After an interesting catch up race she lost with a painful 9:8 score again.
„In general I am happy with my good performance. I played very well but in our sport sometimes a pinch of luck makes the difference between winning and loosing. But I guess that is what it makes so exciting,” said Ouschan after her defeat in the men division.
In the semi final of the women division the draw made Ouschan play against the unknown Yunmi Lin of Korea. Ouschan started the match on a high level but Yunmi Lin answered with a 9 ball break and run-out. Again Ouschan was behind but this time she didn't get the chance to fight back. Yunmi Lin played flawless pool and everything she did seemed to work out. After a short time Jasmin Ouschan lost 6:3 and finished 3rd.
„Actually I can't blame me for anything. When I got chance I made the best out of it. She played awesome and the balls we running for her and so I have to respect her good performance,” said Ouschan after the semi final.
Even though Ouschan didn't win the tournament she was honoured with something else. It was the Sportswomen of the year award in Korea sponsored by Dragon Promotions.
“I think it is a very nice idea to do that and of course it is great honour for me that I got it this year,” said Ouschan with a happy face.
