Cuetec Cue Tour Championships 2007 in Lincoln City/Oregon

The Highlight of the year was the last event of 2007, the WPBA Cuetec Cue Tour Championships in Lincoln City/Oregon. This year the WPBA board tried to make the event even more exciting by playing the round robin system. The field of 48 players was divided into 8 groups with 6 players each and the best 2 players from every group advance to the final round. The main thing about the event is that you could get more points than in all the other tournaments and that was important for the end ranking of 2007. That means that the best 32 players at the end of the year will get a tour card for the next 2 years. Due to the good results at the 3 events Jasmin Ouschan played, she was able to make the cut.

Jasmin Ouschan was drawn into group 2 which consisted of Karen Corr (IRE), Tiffany Nelson (USA), Janet Atwell (USA), Miyuki Sakai (JPN) and Candi Rego (USA).

In the first match Ouschan faced Tiffany Nelson from the USA. Even though Ouschan struggled a little bit at the beginning she kept the match under control and won with a 9:7 score. Match Nr. 2 was against Miyuki Sakai from Japan. Sakai took a rapid 0:2 lead but Ouschan wasn’t intimidated by that and started to play almost perfect pool and turned the 0:2 into a clear 9:3 victory. This was a good end score for the statistics because in the round robin system the game – winning percentage is also very important in case you are equal with somebody. On the next day Ouschan played Candi Rego also from the USA. Jasmin Ouschan who seemed a little bit out of the rhythm managed to fight through the racks and mark a third victory on her list. In the afternoon she played the current Nr.2 in the WPBA ranking Karen Corr, who already lost one match before. Due to the defeat Corr was not allowed to lose another match. Jasmin Ouschan didn’t allow herself to think about that and kept her focus within the rails. After a though start Ouschan changed into another gear and crushed Corr with 9:3. With this fourth victory Ouschan was leading the group and had only one more match to go. This match was against Janet Atwell from the USA. After her successful result against Corr where she gained a lot of self confidence, Ouschan was hard to break. With a good performance Ouschan won her fifth and last match of the group system.

„I am pretty happy with my performance so far. I was able to play a high level and put me into a very good position for the final round,” said Jasmin Ouschan after the group matches.

With 5 victories Jasmin Ouschan was the Nr. 1 in her group and also had the highest break and run out statistics of the tournament.

As a result of the round robin statistics Jasmin Ouschan was seeded as Nr.3 in the final round. Ouschan had to play Irish Julie Kelly, the world champion of 2000, who lives in the USA. After a good start and a rapid lead, Ouschan lost her concentration and gave away important chances for increasing her lead. Julie Kelly perfectly found her rhythm and took all the chances she got. Ouschan who tried to fight back into the game only got a few more chances before she got kicked out of the event with a painful 9:4 score.

„ The tournament was actually very good until this last match. That I have to end this event now with such a bad performance is really disappointing for me. I am very surprised about my blackout in this match. I think I need some time now to find the reason for it so that I can work on it in the future,” said Jasmin Ouschan after the event.

„Even though I am not really satisfied with that result I have to channel my thoughts now on my next events in Korea and Japan which will start right after this tournament. Maybe I can reach my goals there”.
