IBP Euro Tour Frauenfeld/Switzerland

The 6th Stop of the Euro Tour took place in Frauenfeld/Switzerland. After a very long trip and a few wrong turns I finally found the pool hall in the middle of the industry area of Frauenfeld. The pool hall had 16 tables in quite good shape but the disadvantage was that the only seats were around the bar so it was very difficult for spectators to watch matches at the other side of the room. But for the TV arena the IBP Team had a special idea. They rented a room especially for the TV table so they were able to set up enough stands for spectators. Besides the normal recording of all the TV matches they also broadcasted it live on the Bwin Homepage. This time they had to minimize the players’ field because of the less tables. The draw made me play against Mr. Walk Over in the first round, so I had more time to prepare for the match against Brian Beekers in the second round. It was time for revenge so I managed to win 10:6. Cankurt Mehmet, who sent Oliver Ortmann to the losers round was my next challenge. I had the match well under control and entered the next winners round. In the next very important qualifying match for the last 32 I faced the German Benjamin Baier. I was able to take a rapid lead and increase my level from the last match. I entered the last 32 as the first women in the Euro Tour history with a 10:5 victory. On the next day I played Nick van den Berg from the Netherlands. After a few unlucky situations I was trailing 8:2. I fought back to the score of 9:7. A stupid scratch on the six ball was the chance for Van den Berg to empty the table and kick me out of the tournament. Of course I am a bit disappointed of the chance I gave away but I am really satisfied with the 17th place.

At this Euro Tour it was time for a couple of newcomers who gave lessons to some of the top players. Oliver Ortmann, who lost to Cankurt Mehmet in the second round, couldn’t find back to his level and was kicked out in the 4th round. Also Ralf Souquet and Thomas Engert had to say good bye when they lost there qualifying match in the losers round. But for the Austrian players it was a very successful weekend. Besides three 17th places, Dejan Dabovic increased his 5th place from Weert into a 3rd place in Switzerland. But the big surprise of this Euro Tour was definitely the winner Jonni Fulcher from Great Britain. The whole tournament through he showed flawless Pool and well earned this Euro Tour title with his victory over Tony Drago in the final.
