With 264 athletes filled 3rd Euro Tour Stop in Germany is one of the strongest tours all over the world, which doesn´t stand out only because of the 264 participants but rather because of its high power density of the players.
Jasmin Ouschan, the only female who faced the challenge, started the tournament with a clear 9:5 victory over Kasper Thygesen from Denmark. In the second round the Carinthian sportswoman of the year defeated the Portuguese Nuno Rollo in a tight match with 9:8. On the second day Ouschan faced The Nr.1 of the Euro Tour Ranking in 2007 and Mosconi Cup member Konstantin Stepanov from Russia. After a flawless performance Ouschan managed to take a rapid 6:2 lead until Stepanov took his Time-out and tried to find a way back into the match. Ouschan who seemed highly focused went on with her strong game and sent the favourite of this match into the losers round with a clear 9:5 victory. In the following match which was the qualifying match for the last 32, Ouschan had to play Thomas Engert from Germany, another European Top player. Engert started out really strong, controlled the table and left Ouschan hardly air to breathe. The match looked pretty safe for Engert until he made a little careless mistake. Ouschan, known for her fighting qualities, used this opportunity to put pressure on Engert. With spectacular shots and a portion of aggressiveness Ouschan was able to turn the match around and won one game after another. With a great performance the Austrian managed to win 6 games en suite for the important 9:7 victory. On the final day Jasmin Ouschan couldn´t connect on her performance from the day before. The match against Gabriele Cimmino was pretty balanced and the score was constantly going back and forward until the Italian took his chance and entered the next round with a 9:6 victory over Ouschan.
“In summary it was a very good tournament. I am very happy about the victory over Stepanov and Thomas Engert, who won the event later, which means I was the only one who was able to beat him. Of course I was hoping for a better finish after good matches like that but in the match against the Italian I made just too many mistakes. But my resume is very positive on the one hand because I played very strong and I was able to turn around the match against Engert with a great performance and on the other hand because I have 2 new names on my beating list” said Ouschan.
