After the successful Women World Championship in Taiwan it was time again for the WPBA San Diego Classics in California. Due to the fact that Jasmin Ouschan finished 2nd in the year before, she definitely was one of the favourites in this tournament. Since over 10 years the event will be played in the Viejas Casino and every year many billiard fans come over to see the best women players.
At the beginning of the tournament Ouschan met Debbie Schjodt from Florida. Since Jasmin Ouschan already played her once she knew how to prepare. Even though, Ouschan seemed to have a few problems with the table and couldn't really adjust to the conditions. A few position mistakes allowed her opponent to make important points and so the match stayed exciting. Nobody could really take the lead until the Austrian managed to win the last racks and enter the next round with a 9:7 victory.
„This match cost me a lot of energy since I made way to many mistakes and by that I made it so much more difficult than it should be. I had a lot of problems with the table because it was the totally opposite of Taiwan. Maybe I can make better use of my next practice time”, said Ouschan after the match.
In the second round Jasmin Ouschan played the several times Snooker World Champion Kelly Fisher from Great Britain who also won this event for the last 3 years. The match was pretty balanced until Ouschan managed to take a short lead that didn't last that long. Ouschan made a few mistakes which gave Fisher a huge chance to come back. She turned the match around and Ouschan had nothing to subtend and had to go to the losers round with a 9:7 defeat.
In the losers round Ouschan had to play My Hanh Lac from the USA who kicked out Jeanette Lee one round before. Ouschan had a good start and took a rapid 4:2 lead. But somehow the Austrian didn't seem to be in her rhythm and started to make some stupid mistakes again. Lac who scent her chance made use of that situation and took the lead. After a lot of ups and downs and a lot of mistakes Ouschan had to surrender with a disappointing 9:6 defeat.
„This result is very disappointing for me. I played really bad pool, couldn't adjust to the tables and simply made to many mistakes. I have to accept that defeat now and concentrate on the Men 8 Ball World Championship which will be held right after this event, said an disappointing Jasmin Ouschan.
