US Open in Lincoln/Rhode Island

The US Open Event is one of the highlights in the men and women professional pool world. As a result of Jasmin Ouschans good finishes in the last WPBA tournaments, she was able to get a spot for this event. The U.S. Open were held in the impressive and newly constructed Twin River Casino in Lincoln/Rhode Island, only a few kilometers away from the capital city Providence. A huge hall, which was a little bit overcooled, was perfect for the right ambiance. Since Jasmin Ouschan was not yet under the best 48 in the WPBA ranking she got one of the ranked players right in the first round.

Her first opponent of the event was Alice Rim from the USA. From the get-go Jasmin Ouschan felt really comfortable on the table and let her opponent feel that as well. Without any problems Ouschan, the current Nr.1 in the World Ranking, finished the match with 9:3. With a good first match in her pocket, Ouschan faced Monica Webb, one of the leading women in the USA. In this match the young woman from Klagenfurt/Austria had to play on an even higher level than before, which she perfectly implemented at the beginning of the match. After a short time and a 5:1 lead for Ouschan, you could easily see who was controlling the table. However Ouschan couldn't hold that level and the match slipped out of her hands. She tried to fought back into the match but it was to late. Webb won with 6:9.

„The first match was good and I could easily adjust to the table and the tough air condition which led to the “sticky conditions” . With my second match I am not satisfied at all. You are not supposed to give away such a high lead, so I need to figure out what happened to be able to give 100% tomorrow,” said a little disappointed Ouschan after her first day.

On the next day Ouschan played Ellen van Buren. Ellen van Buren, who is known for her special playing style, didn't make it very easy for her. In spite of a few troubles at the beginning she managed to win 9:6. After this match Ouschan went directly to the next table where Melissa Herndon from the USA was waiting. Ouschan went on with her aggressive style and kicked Herndon out of the tournament. In the qualifying match for the last 32, Ouschan met Jeanette Lee, one of the most famous billiard players on earth. The prestigious match, which was affected by up and downs, was definitely not a high level match but it was exciting. None of the players were able to take a lead which led to a nerve racking 8:8 score. In the last most important game Jasmin Ouschan had to give up her goal for this event by missing an unnecessary 7 ball.

“Of course I am not happy with that result especially since I had the match in my hands already. It was a tournament with a lot of ups and downs and a lot of mistakes, with what I have enough material for my next training sessions,” said Ouschan about the event.
