US Open in Norman/Oklahoma

This year the US Open took place in the Riverwind Casino in Norman/Oklahoma. 64 of the best women fought for the title and Jasmin Ouschan was seeded as Nr.13 which gave her a good pre round draw.

In round 1 Ouschan played Tina Larsen from the USA. Due to the fact that Ouschan never played her before she started the match a little bit careful. After a rapid 3:0 lead, Ouschan controlled the table and finished the match with a clear 9:3 score.

Right after Ouschan had to play Alice Rim, also from the USA. Even though the preparation for this event came a little short due to the short arrival before the event, Ouschan stayed focused and managed to win the second match with a clear 9:4 score.

„That was definitely a good start into the tournament even though I didn’t play my best pool yet. My next opponent is going to be a lot tougher and so I have to increase my playing level. Even though the jetlag is a little bit a problem, I feel good and confident.”

In the end match for the final 32 Ouschan met British Kelly Fisher who has been living in the USA for a long time. The former Snooker World Champion is of course a though draw and both players knew each other from other matches before. The Austrian had a good head start and was able to take a rapid 3:0 lead. But Kelly Fisher didn’t make it as easy for Ouschan. Due to a few mistakes by Ouschan Fisher won one game after another and evened out. From that moment on the match was going back and forward and no one could take a lead. As expected it came to a hill:hill situation. A position mistake on the 7 ball by Ouschan lead to a missed 8 ball but she only left Fisher a safe. The Briton couldn’t take advantage of this situation and so Ouschan managed to win the match with a portion of luck.

„That was a lot of hard work. The mistake on the last 8 ball shouldn’t have happened but I guess a lot of things came together in that moment. Right now I am just happy that I pulled it off. Now I am in the final round where losing is not allowed anymore. I have to get my energy back together and focus on the next match.”

The next opponent was not unknown. It was Jeanette Lee from the USA and Ouschan has a negative match balance against her. In this match Ouschan didn’t find the way into the match and after a missed 1 ball in the first game Ouschan found herself 3:0 behind. Jasmin Ouschan managed to win a few games until Lee put in another gear and extended her lead. It was easy to see who controlled the table. The longer the match took the more mistakes Ouschan made and Lee didn’t hesitate to kick Ouschan out of the tournament with a clear 9:3 score.

„I think there is a little spell over this match, where I haven’t found an antidote yet. She played very good and I had nothing to answer. I made way to many mistakes and so she deserved to win. Of course I am disappointed because my last results weren’t really top. I have to keep on working and then it will work out one day.”
