After the Euro Tour in Paris the Qualification for the Men 8-Ball World Championship took place in the same arena. 80 Billiard athletes fought for the 5 remaining important spots. Due to the lack of a Women's World 8-Ball Championship, the WPA regulations allow, according to equal opportunities, the possibility for women to qualify and to compete in this prestigious event. Ouschan started the event with a tight 8:7 victory over German Michael Schmidt who already participated in World Championships. After the successful start Ouschan lost to Hamrah Azizizulah with 8:6 and had to go to the one-loss side. From then on Ouschan played great Pool and won one match after another. In the quarterfinal the Austrian played the Nr.1 from Poland and Nr.16 in the Euro Tour Ranking and also runner-up at the last Euro-Tour in Malaga Radoslaw Babica. Although he was one of the favourites he couldn´t stop Ouschan. With a flawless performance Ouschan secured her spot in the Men World Championship and is also the first woman who has ever accomplished qualifying for this Championship. After the 5th and 9th place at the Men Straight Pool World Championships she confirmed again her place in the world class.
Ouschan commented on this unbelievable success: ” This success is almost like a medal at the World Championship. Of course I already demonstrated it in Straight Pool that I am good enough to play there but 8-Ball is the most known discipline and all the top players are going to be there. I am the only woman worldwide who has ever made it to qualify and that is sensational for me. It is also amazing to me that I made it through the qualification in Europe because it is one of the most difficult ones in the world. The expectations of my trainer and I weren’t that high because we are still in our training and expansion phase for the 9-Ball Women World Championships at the beginning of April in Taiwan. Now we have to change our plans. After the WC in Taiwan (April 1st-7th) we go directly to a Pro Event to San Diego ( April 9th-14th) where I have to defend a second place and right after that we will go to Dubai for the 8-Ball WC. So we will have 2 WC and one Pro Event in 3 weeks and that will be definitely a physical and mental challenge, but we are looking forward to it”!
